Rumblings in the League

Posted: January 25, 2012 by Lance Clarke

As we approach our third event this month at Mangia Pizza, I’ve heard some rumblings lately concerning tournament directors participating and/or winning events and I would like to address them now. All tournament directors in TFPL are also poker players in TFPL. They are paid to set up and run a tournaments on their scheduled night(s), settle disputes at tables, and enter points in a timely manner. I also hope they take the time to engage players and attempt to make them more proficient through instruction and example.

Most of the players in the league play with the intent of becoming better overall players, even though I have seen some play that suggests otherwise…I direct you now to the photo. You are bound to get better by just gaining table experience and recognizing what the cards and other players can do and you should adjust accordingly. If you do not adjust to the playing conditions, then you are doing the same thing over and over and are expecting different results and are obviously insane, according to one German Physicist, and I just enjoy having you at my table because crazy people amuse me.

I have asked all TD’s to cease playing in the games they are running and focus more on creating a fun and professional atmosphere in which to play poker. If you have issues with the table or just wonder what went wrong with a hand, that is what they are there for that night, so take advantage of that resource. That being said, if TD’s want to qualify and play in these tourneys in their spare time, not only do I encourage it, but it should be looked upon as a challenge to all, as I consider TFPL TD’s to be some of the best poker players in Austin. Except for that one who shall remain nameless, you know who you are(again see photo).

It is my goal to have these tournaments every weekend at different TFPL locations with bigger prizes as they become more and more successful. There is no other place where you can FREEROLL for $250-350+ almost every week, so come take advantage of them.

Thanks, Lance
